A feel capable anecdote for the whole family, don’t quiz “Powerful Joe Young” to knock you off your feet. Instead, perceive it for the marvelous “Beauty and the Beast” storyline that is well outlined for any age group to inspect.

There is some violence in this movie, and smaller children may be horrified by “Joe” at first, but if they can control themselves through the first few minutes, they’ll drop in adore with him. There is very small, if any, snide language.

What a attractive movie! Charlize Theron brings precise heart to her character and it is her esteem for Joe as fragment of her family that makes this a movie to fill in. Bill Paxton does a magnificent job as the male lead, and they are well supported by gigantic characters and actors (Regina King among them) . Also stare out for Naveen Andrews who currently appears in the television series “Lost”. Tranquil, once you’ve seen it, you’ll peek how extraordinary it is. Who needs King Kong? Who needs the unique Much Joe Young? Hell, who needs Planet Of The Apes? This PBS documentary is very worthwhile and informative, especially, if like me, you are strange with the life of Woodie Guthrie. I’m positive most of us have at least heard the name, and know that his legacy hovers somewhere in the background of American folk-legendry. This program will acquaint you with the chronological and biographical details which you would inquire from a casual exposition of his life. So we secure glimpses of the formative processes of his childhood, with the tragic mental illness caused by Huntington’s chorea which afflicted his mother, being a distinguished influence. This same illness was to be the cause of his enjoy unlit deterioration and death. Woody was a very gleaming youngster who read many advanced books in the local library, and who had a talent for drawing and painting. He had the potential, evidently, of assuming the life of an quick-witted along the lines of the favorite concept of such a lifestyle. But whether because of early family tragedies and the concurrent happenings of the Broad Depression and socialist political movements which were afoot in his native southwest, or a natural identification with the downtrodden, Woody adopted a radical, populist stance through which he expressed his intelligence and individualism. His persona became that of the hayseed with the twangy thunder and rural vernacular whose innate well-liked sense sees through and exposes the hypocrisy and rapacity of the bigshots and fatcats. His songs brought to public attention a side of America that conflicted with the vision of “America The Sparkling”. According to Woody’s version it was only glorious for the “haves”, and something else entirely for the “have-nots”. Woody was eventually adopted by the intelligentsia of Recent York City as sort of a poster boy for what their plan of an American folk-hero should be, although considerable of mainstream America rejected him because of his friendliness with the communist party in this country. The PBS special, besides covering the main events of his life, spends a broad deal of time with interviews of family, friends, writers, and musical colleagues. The tone of these interviews range from adoring(from his daughter) to mixed(his first wife), but all are generally generous. It seemed to me that one thing that was lacking in the program was a closer examination of the reasons Woody chose the paths he did. He was appropriated by various non-mainstream groups as a representative or symbol of causes they were promoting. Migrant workers, hobos, labor organizers, communists, and Recent York intellectuals all had Woody for a symbol, but what motivated the man personally? No doubt he did have a grand sympathy for the downtrodden, but the cause of speaking for the oppressed was certainly a vehicle discontinuance at hand which Woody could expend to showcase his talents. My curiosity was angry enough to do some web research, and I consider anyone enthusiastic in Woody Guthrie would do well to do the same to score a more complete describe of the man. Two sites which I found very interesting: An article by Thomas Connor in The Woody Guthrie Archives entitled “Tracking Woody”s HD”, which contains a discussion of the effects of this disease on Guthries creative life. Another article on the History News Network, “The Christian Left’s Vision” discusses Woody’s Christian faith and how it was able to co-exist with his Communist association. I applaud Woody Guthrie’s standing up for the oppressed, and I am tickled that America was free enough to tolerate him as a gadfly. He has been both admired and reviled, but he was a reliable fragment of the American experience, mainstream or not.

This is an obliging PBS documentary about the life of Woody Guthrie, the big American singer/songwriter (and godfather/forerunner of the folk music explosion of the early sixties) . The film tells about his upbringing in a fairly well off family–a win childhood abruptly ruined by his mother’s descent into dementia and violence due to Huntington’s disease. This tragic turn of events sends Guthrie into foster homes and eventually helps turn him into a prolific and novel American hobo-gypsy songwriter. But Guthrie was a man of many talents; he was a gifted draughtsman, writer, radio host, comedian, “ladies’ man”, and actor (considering the poetic license employed when presenting his unsophisticated “hick” persona) . The film is narrated by Peter Coyote and features interviews with Joe Klein (Guthrie’s biographer), Pete Seeger, and Bruce Springsteen, as well as family members and friends of Guthrie. Conspicuously absent are Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie. Quiet, the film is well-put together; it features some gargantuan images and films of Guthrie as well as many priceless recordings of him talking and singing. The narration explains the social context for Guthrie’s often very political songs. Most notably, we are informed that the song “This Land is your Land” was penned as an mad answer to “God Bless America”–Guthrie feeling that it is up to Americans to get this country tremendous, not God (Hallelujah!) . Besides being informative, the film is involving in its portrayal of Guthrie’s tragic last years as he succumbed to the same disease that had destroyed his mother. Ultimately “Woody Guthrie” depicts the songwriter as a flawed but gallant American musical genius.

I am impartial gratified they are releasing this series but if I made a best of compilation, I would have picked one episode of the returning guests (i.e. one harlem globetrotter rather than all three since these episodes have been previously released on DVD) . This intention I could include the tremendous guest episodes like Sonny and Cher, Josie and the Pussycats, Phyllis Diller, Davey Jones, Addams Family, Sandy Duncan and Jerry Reed. These episodes I feel far surpass the Don Adams, Dick Van Dyke, the “Guess Who’s Knott Coming to Dinner (with Don Knotts) “, “The Ghost of The Red Baron (with The Three Stooges) “, “The Mystery of Troubled Island (with The Harlem Globetrotters) ” and the Laurel and Hardy episodes.

I’ve always been a colossal Scooby Doo fan ever since the reveal first premiered in 1969 when I was fair 6 years feeble. In 1972, “Scooby Doo, Where are You? ” became “The Novel Scooby Doo Movies”. The point to was now an hour long instead of 30 minutes and each episode had the gang meet a recent guest star each week. This format lasted from 1972 through 1973 and featured 24 total episodes along with a Halloween special. Unfortunately, instead of giving us ALL 25 episodes, Warner Home Video has chosen to give us a “best of” collection of 15 episodes. Why not do all of them is a mystery for Scooby and the gang but I guess beggars cannot be choosers.

“Atrocious Ghost Town” guest stars the Three Stooges. The gang is forced to peep wait on on foot in the desert after their van is forced onto a sand dune by a low-flying, king-sized bat. They reach across Moe Howard, Larry Dazzling and Curly-Joe DeRita, whose amusement park is really the one in need of relieve.

“The Dynamic Scooby Doo Affair” with Batman & Robin. When The Mystery Machine breaks the gang bump into smugglers, Batman and Robin, a runt frail lady, and a punching clown filled with fallacious cash. A tip leads them to the carnival. . .where they rep Joker and Penguin slow the kooky spurious caper. As is usually the case with these villainous villains, our heroes wind up in a funhouse hideout.

“The Frickert Fracas” with Jonathan Winters. Hoping they will have a vacation from tremulous houses and spooky characters when Jonathan Winters invites them to stop at Maude Frickert’s farm, Scooby-Doo and company soon learn differently when the dwelling becomes overrun with vandalizing scoundrels and living scarecrows.

“Guess who’s Knott Coming to Dinner? ” with Don Knotts. When the gang close at Sulky Manor to salvage directions, they derive themselves unsuitable for Captain Moody’s neices and nephews by an assortment of characters who all resemble Don Knotts.

“The Spooky Fog” – with Don Knotts. A spoof of Knott’s note Mayberry R.F.D, wherein a fresh fabricate of small-town hospitality is in store for Scooby-Doo and pals when officer Don Knotts invites them to consume the night at the best hotel in Juneberry: the local jail!

“The Ghost of Bigfoot” with Laurel & Hardy. While visiting a ski lodge, the gang rush into bellhops Laurel and Hardy, who attempt to abet the gang inform the mystery of the ghost of Bigfoot… but Laurel and Hardy are even more cowardly than Scooby and Shaggy.

“The Ghost of the Red Baron” with the Three Stooges. The gang re-teams with the Three Stooges to ground the ghost of Baron Ludwig von Richtofen, The Red Baron, the evildoer of doughty who has horrified off all of Mr. Sawyer’s slice dusting pilots in an danger to pressure the farmer into leaving his land.

“Ghostly Creeps from the Deep” with the Harlem Globetrotters. Scooby and the gang hurry across the clown princes of basketball, The Harlem Globetrotters on the eerie banks of a paralyzed swamp so that their boosted team spirit might protect them from the supernatural spirits being released by the ghost of Redbeard The Pirate.

“The Caped Crusader Caper” with Batman & Robin. In Batman and Robin’s second appearance on this series, Scooby and the gang try to foil Joker and Penguin’s attempts to recall a flying suit from a goofy scientist.

“The Lochness Mess” with the Harlem Globetrotters. The Gang go to a limited Unusual England town to visit Shaggy’s Uncle Nathaniel but toddle into the middle of a mystery complete with the ghost of Paul Revere and a spooky sea serpent. With the support of The Harlem Globetrotters, they narrate a residence whereby Morgan, a local crook, is trying to awe the townsfolk into spellbinding away in order to mask his discovery of a appreciate ship.

“The Mystery of the Timorous Island” – The Globetrotters are serve again. The gang and the Trotters are taken by a spectral ship to a deserted island. They prefer refuge in a deserted mansion where statues approach to life, books wing off the shelves, and ghosts and secret passages are everywhere.

“The Exterminator” with Don Adams. The gang engage up Don Adams who is running an extermination business and capture him to his next job at Alarm Hill, an eerie, foreboding-looking ramshackle which is also the home of musty alarm film star Lorne Chumley.

“The Queer Winds of Winona” – with Hasten Buggy! The Mystery Machine breaks down and the gang win themselves running into Hasten Buggy and his friends. It’s up to the two gangs to discovery the mystery of the winds that blow through the town that they’ve been stranded in.

“The Disturbed Candy Factory” with Mama Cass. Mama Cass, Scooby-Doo and company are caught in a “sticky mess” at her namesake candy factory when two green cotton candy globs attempt to “shroud” stolen gold bullion with caramel, chocolate and nuts.

“The Stupefied Carnival” with Dick Van Dyke. The gang takes a hurry to the carnival to run their ghost-chasing troubles, only to derive Dick Van Dyke owns and operates the park. . .which is apprehensive.

I’m not clear how Warner’s chose these particular episodes. Maybe there was something to do with obtaining the rights to shows with other guest stars. I would have preferred to examine the episodes which featured the Adams Family, Phyllis Diller and Tim Conway myself as opposed to all the Globetrotter shows, Accelerate Buggy and Mama Cass. This state is aimed at us baby boomers since most kids today are not going to have any notion who people like Don Adams and Mama Cass are but they are calm fun and I’ve not seen many of these in over 30 years. Gigantic to observe these on DVD! Actors doing voices for attractive films and shows is quite approved today but it wasn’t so accepted abet then and it’s fun to watch sharp versions of these mammoth comics with their contain voices.

I am a grandmother of quadruplets born prematurely at 29 weeks. “Puny Man” is the only film I have ever seen that shows the reality of what a family goes through when a precious exiguous one is born too soon. A lot of the film follows Nicholas in the NICU, and then the film shows the impact on Nicole and her family when Nicholas is discharged home on oxygen, an apnea monitor, and breathing treatments, and what it’s like to deal with running a mini-ICU in the home. I had never seen that portrayed in any film before, as unfortunately, that is the reality with most preemies, along with surgeries, multiple meds, and feeding challenges. Nicholas had more medical problems approach up in time and the film follows the changes in the family that occur as he struggles. This is a compelling, handsome, and poignant film and I highly recommend it.

I am surprised and saddened that this is no longer in print. I absorb a copy, ordered it from Nicole’s website before it was even released.

What a fantastic myth. Really a tremendous documentary to indicate your children, teaching diversity, tolerance, and compassion.

Nicole and her partner Gwen never really arrive a resolution at the waste of the movie, though they were most certainly at odds. I often wonder what became of them, and if they made it. I hope so…..
